Four DWC Prime columns replace conventional eight-column train, marking a milestone in process intensification for the chemical industry
HOUSTON, TX – July 09, 2026 – DWC Innovations LLC (DWCI) today announced the successful completion and commissioning of a network of DWC Prime dividing wall columns at an acetone-derivatives production complex in India. The project marks the world’s first implementation of multiple dividing-wall columns replacing an entire conventional distillation sequence within a single chemical process, according to the company.
A Milestone in Process Intensification
The project represents a significant process-intensification achievement: four DWC Prime columns now perform the separation duties previously handled by a conventional train of eight distillation columns. The streamlined configuration is designed to reduce equipment count while improving energy efficiency and overall process performance.
The plant successfully entered commercial operation and completed commissioning in June 2026. DWCI’s scope of work included development of the basic engineering package for the DWC Prime columns, along with the supply of the company’s proprietary internals.
Advancing Adoption of Dividing Wall Column Technology
The successful startup underscores the growing adoption of advanced distillation technologies across the global chemical industry. Dividing-wall columns are increasingly being deployed for complex separation duties where process efficiency, lower energy consumption, reduced capital investment, and operational optimization are critical objectives.
By consolidating multiple distillation functions into fewer, more efficient units, DWC Prime technology offers chemical producers a pathway to lower their capital footprint and operating costs while meeting increasingly stringent efficiency and sustainability targets.
