DWC Innovations Completes World's First Multi-Column Dividing Wall Column Network, Replacing Full Distillation Train at Indian Acetone Derivatives Complex

DWC Innovations / 13 July, 2026 / Press Release

Four DWC Prime columns replace conventional eight-column train, marking a milestone in process intensification for the chemical industry

HOUSTON, TX – July 09, 2026 – DWC Innovations LLC (DWCI) today announced the successful completion and commissioning of a network of DWC Prime dividing wall columns at an acetone-derivatives production complex in India. The project marks the world’s first implementation of multiple dividing-wall columns replacing an entire conventional distillation sequence within a single chemical process, according to the company.

A Milestone in Process Intensification

The project represents a significant process-intensification achievement: four DWC Prime columns now perform the separation duties previously handled by a conventional train of eight distillation columns. The streamlined configuration is designed to reduce equipment count while improving energy efficiency and overall process performance.

The plant successfully entered commercial operation and completed commissioning in June 2026. DWCI’s scope of work included development of the basic engineering package for the DWC Prime columns, along with the supply of the company’s proprietary internals.

Advancing Adoption of Dividing Wall Column Technology

The successful startup underscores the growing adoption of advanced distillation technologies across the global chemical industry. Dividing-wall columns are increasingly being deployed for complex separation duties where process efficiency, lower energy consumption, reduced capital investment, and operational optimization are critical objectives.

By consolidating multiple distillation functions into fewer, more efficient units, DWC Prime technology offers chemical producers a pathway to lower their capital footprint and operating costs while meeting increasingly stringent efficiency and sustainability targets.

DWC Innovations completes conversion of CDU-2 Naphtha Splitter into a state-of-the-art Dividing Wall Column using proprietary DWC-Prime Technology

HOUSTON, TX – May 26, 2026 – DWC Innovations LLC is pleased to announce the successful completion and commissioning of a revamp project involving conversion of existing Naphtha Splitter column in the CDU-2 unit at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), India, into a state-of-the-art Dividing Wall Column utilizing its proprietary DWC-Prime Technology.

Project Objectives and Results

The primary objectives of the revamp included enhanced operational flexibility, a stable and robust process control scheme, improved separation efficiency and product specifications, and achieving these objectives with no change in reboiler duty.

The revamped unit successfully completed the Performance Guarantee Test Run in April 2026, meeting all project goals established for the project. The upgraded column was re-integrated with its auxiliary equipment with minimum changes to piping, delivering an optimized unit capable of producing higher-purity products and sharper separations across light, medium, and heavy naphtha streams.

Project Scope

DWCI’s scope for the project included:

  • Licensing of proprietary DWC-Prime Technology
  • Basic and detailed engineering of the NSU-2 unit
  • Supply and installation of proprietary tower internals
  • Modification of the Naphtha Splitter Column and its associated piping
  • On-site supervision during the turnaround period
