Upgrade Naphtha Products

The refinery has an existing a naphtha splitter followed by a depentanizer column. The light Naphtha was separated into to a mix of C5 cut and C6+ naphtha. The top C5 had a RON of 80 and was blended to the gasoline pool. The new business objective required to produce three products: iC5, C5s & C6+ naphtha. IC5 product should have a RON of over 90 so as to make it suitable for blending into premium gasoline. The paper explores the common distillation sequences to meet the new design objectives:

  • Install a new deisopentanizer
  • Revamp the existing depentanizer to a side cut column
  • Revamp the existing depentanizer to a dividing wall column.

The pros and cons in terms of CAPEX and OPEX are discussed for the each of the revamp scenarios. Also read…

Optimize Naphtha Block

Naphtha Block in refinery processes full range naphtha (C5-C12) to useful fractions. These fractions are primarily used for gasoline blending or as feedstock to petrochemical complexes. Naphtha splitter plays a dominant role in feed preparation to Isom, CCR and PX Complexes. Besides energy and throughput increase, DWC revamp of naphtha splitters significantly improve the performance of downstream units. This whitepaper explores the following case studies in revamp of a naphtha block:

  • Revamp of a sequence of naphtha splitters to DWC preparing feed for Isom and CCR Units.
  • Revamp of a Side cut naphtha splitter to DWC preparing feed for Isom and CCR Units.
  • Revamp of a Side cut naphtha splitter to DWC preparing feed for Isom and CCR & PX Units.
